(was Newsgroup Madness) A couple of years ago, there was a bit of hoopla on the Internet about the soundtrack to Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" correlating directly to the images in the film: "The Wizard of Oz." Has anyone on this list detected a similar phenomenon with Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention's "We're Only in it for the Money" and the BBC/PBS video release of "Here Come the Teletubbies"? I'll take your answers off the air. I personally could not verify the phenomenon. Apparently, there is such a huge disparity between the different WOIIFTM releases that exist (vinyl vs. CD, Verve vs. Warner Bros. vs. Ryko, pre-95 master vs. post-95 remaster, and don't get me started on the Euro EMI stuff) that one would have to compare all of these against said video to find out. I thought I might try a different angle, and subscribed to the Teletubbie newsgroup - alt-fan.teletubbie-noneofthatbeaniebabyshiteither - to see if there were any posts that dealt with this topic. I found nothing there, but my welcome to AFTNTBBSE did contain an address for their FAQ, which I immediately checked out. It mentioned the phenomenon, but cited the problems I listed above with WOIIFTM as prohibiting the actual experience. The FAQ also pointed out - in the ABC vs. BBC section - that, due to the censorship of any possible gay elements surrounding the little purple one, the correct copy of WOIIFTM would have to be compared to the Greek release of the video; which, as any true tubbifile knows, has been OOP for so long that copies are only available thru eBay at prices that unfavorably compare to rape. ::: Last night had to the opportunity to get together with a few of my midget friends (physical not mental), and they asked me please to make a request to all bookdealers who stock magazines. PLEASE DO NOT STOCK YOUR ADULTS-ONLY MATERIAL ON THE TOP SHELF. They feel embarrassed having to ask the clerk to reach these titles for them. I assured them that I would spread the word. *Last night I had to the opportunity to get together with a few of my midget friends (physical not mental). They tried to thank me, but...* |
